LOCAL RULES

1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

All fenced Boundaries of the course and beyond the white posts to the right of the 3rd fairway and behind the 18th green.

2. Penalty Areas (Rule 17.1)

The red penalty areas to the right of the 11th and 12th holes are marked by red posts.

3. No Play Zones. (Relief MUST be taken under Rule 16.1)
Young trees identified by stakes, wrapping or other protection; areas marked as GUR; and the areas marked by blue posts between the 2nd green and 3rd tee, and on the bank of the dip to the left of the 15th green are No Play Zones. Balls reasonably thought to have come to rest in the blue posted areas must not be retrieved; a ball should be dropped and played from the designated Drop Zone nearby.

4. Abnormal Course Conditions

Any surface damage to the course caused by animals, birds or by vehicle tracks is designated an Abnormal Course Condition. Relief may be taken under Rule 16.1.

5. Paths

All artificially surfaced paths, tracks and matting on the course are to be treated as abnormal course conditions. Relief may be taken under Rule 16.1.

6. Posts, Ropes, Marker Posts

All steps and adjacent handrails are immovable obstructions. Relief may be taken under Rule 16.1. All temporary posts with ropes or metal hoops are immovable obstructions. Relief may be taken under Rule 16.1 and in addition if your ball strikes one, that shot may be replayed without penalty. If a ball strikes either marker posts on the 6th hole it may be replayed without penalty. The 150 yard markers are movable obstructions. If moved, they must be replaced after your shot has been played.

7. Fixed Sprinkler Heads and Irrigation Boxes

Relief from sprinkler heads may be taken under Rule 16. Players may also take relief under Rule 16.1 if a sprinkler head is on the line of play and is within two clubs length of the green and within two club lengths of the ball. Exception - there is no relief if a player chooses a line of play that is clearly unreasonable.

8. Metal Sheild (3rd)

The metal shield reinforcing the hedge in front of the 3rd tee is considered an integral object forming part of the course.

9. The practice green

The practice green and area around it are deemed a practice area. Players are allowed to practice here on the day of competitions. During general play, the practice green is a No Play Zone and relief MUST be taken under Rule 16.1.

General Penalty for Breach of a Local Rule:

• Matchplay - loss of hole.
• Strokeplay - two strokes.

Model Local Rules for Adverse Weather

1. Model Local Rule E-3 - Preferred lies

When preferred lies are in operation and a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may take free relief once by marking, cleaning and placing the ball within six inches from the reference point but not nearer the hole and in the general area.

2. Aeration holes

If a player's ball lies in or touches an aeration hole: (a) Ball in General Area. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. If the ball comes to rest in another aeration hole the player may take relief again under this Local Rule. (b) Ball on Putting Green. The player may take relief under Rule 16.1d. But interference does not exist if the aeration hole only interferes with the player's stance or, on the putting green, on the player's line of play

PLAYERS RESPONSIBILITIES

• Please avoid slow play, be aware of how far ahead the group in front is and how close the group behind is. Try to play faster or allow faster players behind you the chance to come through when convenient.
• It is the responsibility of all players to take care of the safety of themselves and others. This includes walkers on public footpaths, greens staff and golfers on other fairways. Only play when it is safe to do so. If your ball is heading close to other people on the course, shout “fore” loudly.
• Care should be taken walking up, down or across sloping fairways or banks particularly when wet.
• Please ring the bell by the 6th green when it is safe for the group behind to drive.
• FOG - in foggy conditions, no play can commence from the 1st tee if the rough between the 1st and 18th holes is not visible from the white tee marker post. Thereafter, no player may play a shot when they cannot clearly see the likely landing area.
• LIGHTNING - If there is a risk of lightning it is the player's own responsibility to discontinue play when, in his / her opinion, a danger from lightning exists. Due to variations in weather conditions around the course, the Club is not always in a position to make this decision on a player's behalf; therefore, the ultimate decision lies with the player to cease play. In competitions players will cease play on three short blasts of the klaxon. Play may be resumed on the sound of 2 long klaxon blasts.
• The club reserves the right to close the course in adverse weather conditions.
• Any ball hit onto the roads/houses at the 1st, 3rd, 10th, or 18th holes should be reported to the Manager at the conclusion of your round. (manager@henleygc.com)
